Letter Details: A Plea for a friend

By radioflyer

Category: School Scandals

Description: This is a letter I wrote to the financial aide office to restore financial aide to my friend who was in danger of being booted from the university.

To Whom It May Concern:

Today I received a disturbing phone call from my friend David Hurler stating that his financial aid appeal was denied. This particularly disturbed me because David is an extremely gifted and upright student who has suffered unbearable circumstances. These unfortunate hardships inevitably lead to his academic failure at Virginia Commonwealth University. Nonetheless, David’s strive to improve himself is most remarkable yet seemingly unnoticed. David brings unparalleled talent to Virginia Commonwealth University and is most deserving to remain apart of an institution passionately dedicated to strengthening the lives of its students.

Personally, academic failure crept close to home in my own struggle to succeed at the university. Measuring my grades a few semesters ago, one could suspect I was just like all the others; there wasting incalculable time and money. However, I too was having problems much deeper then remedial tutorial could resolve. Even still, it was the second and third chance that the university extended to me that made all the difference. As a result, I’ve made the Honors list twice, and today continue to maintain grades any parent could be proud of.

The accomplishments I have made during my tenure at Virginia Commonwealth University weren’t solely my own doing. It was the nourishment I received from people such as my friend, David Hurler. Even in the midst of his own problems, Nathaniel continued to encourage me and was always there for me.

Now, I would like to be there for my friend Nathaniel who in so many ways has great potential to do exceedingly well at VCU. He is a noble man of great character and the university is in all honestly the best chance David may have to make something of himself.

I hope that you find my plea most sincere and reconsider reinstating David’s financial aide as his presence at the university not only effects his life, but the lives of all the many students he has touched. If given the chance, I will remain painfully dedicated to helping David get back on track just as someone helped me.

There have been many nights, that David and I worked all night to finish projects and meet demanding deadlines. He has made a relentless effort to improve in his classes and he has. I am very proud of the work David has done this past semester and I hope that you give him the chance to continue improving and growing as this is an individual unique in so many ways and it would be very tragic to not see him return to the VCU family.

Very well written, though the fact that you call him Nathanial in the 4th to last paragraph confuses me.

It's good even though it probably won't change their minds.
